John Paul Caponigro is an environmental landscape photographer who combines his background in painting, with traditional and alternative photographic processes. His artwork is photo-based digital imaging. His work addresses both connection with nature and creative interaction in the environment at a time of rapid change. His work crosses the line between photography and painting, displaying his knowledge of composition and colors. He makes images to to explore the natural world and express the love for it. The work he creates suggests to the viewer ways of looking closely and relating to the natural world in a different way.
One of his more recent series is called Revelation. This work is concerned with universally shared archetypal qualities, it is also concerned with the unique character of specific places. It is not just a document, he is collaborating with nature. He is bringing into focus not just what is seen with the naked eye, but what he experiences in his body, mind and emotion.
When I look at Caponigro's work I amt amazed. I think it is interesting how he digitally manipulating these photos. He is actually changing them to make them more interesting and to give a different meaning to them.
