Landscape: Tine Poppe

Landscape
Tine Poppe
J Robison

Tine Poppe is a photographer from Norway. Her practice focuses on political, environmental, and social issues. She is currently interested in America's  political landscape and on climate change.

I was moved by a project in her portfolio relating to poverty in pre-industrial areas of Nepal.

Examining the dreamy landscape of these images, There is a strong sense of other-worldliness present, as though these pictures exist both in and out of time. Poverty is apparent, but it isn't exploited in a voyeuristic orgy of superiority. Instead, the viewer senses beauty contained within this milieu in spite of whatever resources may be lacking. These images represent a surreal, yet poignant portrayal of life in a tough and difficult world and we are fortunate to see it through Poppe's lens of veiled fog and mystery.

  1. Concise. I'm surprised you don't relate this to your own image-making in some way.
